Following the publication of Unscientific America–which called upon scientists to step up their communication and outreach activities–Chris was increasingly called upon to actually train researchers in media and communication.
Early trainings at Caltech, MIT, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, and other venues led him to create the beginnings of a science communication curriculum. Then, in 2010, Chris teamed up with the National Science Foundation to create the unprecedented two day “Science: Becoming the Messenger” program, which has now trained over 2,000 scientists in 20 states, in skills ranging from designing a message to delivering it through Twitter, blogging, video, and public presentations.
For a recent “Messenger” event, see here; day 1 and day 2 agendas are also online. To inquire about science communication trainings, send an email here.
